What's in this episode?
On 16 April 2024, the Fair Dealing Obligations (Milk) Regulations 2024 were made by the government. The Regulations apply to the whole of the UK, which aim to introduce mandatory minimum terms for dairy contracts. The intention behind the regulations is to remove unfair contractual rights and obligations which are sometimes forced upon producers who may lack negotiating power.
The regulations cover all cows’ milk sold by a dairy farmer to a milk buyer. Any new contract entered into in the UK after 9 July 2024 must comply with the new regulations and any existing contract must be amended to come in line with the regulations by 9 July 2025.
Our experts discuss the changes made by the regulations and what dairy farmers need to do to get their milk contracts up to date.
