Foot Anstey employee supports Royal British Legion for Remembrance Day

Sarah Cooper, Reception and Events Coordinator at national law firm, Foot Anstey, used her firm issued CSR day to volunteer with the Royal British Legion (Royal British Legion) at this year’s Poppy Appeal events in Bristol.

The Royal British Legion supports veterans and their families up and down the country with a mission to offer support veterans from conflicts such as World War 2, as well as more recent conflicts, such as in Afghanistan and Iraq. It provides essential mental health support from therapy sessions for the individual, to family counselling sessions, to support with learning how to adapt to a serious life changing injury.

When asked about her day with the Royal British Legion, Sarah said: "Remembrance Day is still so important as we must never forget the men and women who gave their lives for their countries. It helps us remember how fragile life is and that we are fortunate to live somewhere like the UK where we do not suffer conflict on a daily basis.

"For the Bristol Poppy Appeal event, it was an early start, as I needed to arrive for a 7am briefing with serving members of the military, volunteers and Royal British Legion staff.

"I was assigned to Poppy HQ in Cabot Circus and spent the day deploying all the Poppy Teams to various locations around the city, arranging for the Royal British Legion riders (all ex-military) to go and retrieve any collection buckets and replenish the teams' stocks. All services were represented – the Army, Navy, Marines, RAF, air cadets and sea cadets.

"Everybody was friendly and happy to talk to me about their roles and careers in the military. I met people I would never have had the pleasure of meeting if I hadn’t volunteered. A highlight of the day was Sharron Davies MBE coming to meet us at HQ as well as The Lord Lieutenant of The City & County of Bristol-Mrs Peaches Golding OBE."
