Philip is a Partner in our Real Estate team and leads the firm’s developer team.
He has expertise in a wide range of real estate work with particular emphasis on commercial and residential development (both immediate and strategic) and the securing of development and project finance.
Philip’s clients are made up of national, regional and local developers, promoters, housing associations, landowners disposing of land for development and banks and alternative lenders.
Philip has been ranked highly in numerous Legal500 and Chambers rankings over the last decade.
Outside of work Philip enjoys spending time with his young family and is a passionate sports fan; in particular he enjoys following the Exeter Chiefs and, in the summer, Somerset County Cricket Club.

Expertise
- Acting for a PLC housebuilder in relation to the creation of a new town, to include the completion of multiple options with landowners and collaboration agreements with other housebuilders and seeing the matter through acquisition and into new home sales.
- Acting for a PLC housebuilder in relation to a 575 unit development in the Home Counties, to include acquisition (through a JV with Homes England), of the land, the completion of the relevant development agreements and the disposal of community infrastructure (school, sports facilities and retail units), the disposal of affordable housing and into new home sales.
- Acting for a landowner/promoter in relation to the promotion of a significant scheme in Gloucestershire, to include the strategic acquisition of land, site assembly, the disposal of land to a PLC developer on a phased basis and all ancillary matters.
- Acting for a commercial developer relating to the acquisition of land and the creation of a new business park, to include site assembly and the disposal of land, and the entry into development agreements and occupational leases with occupiers such as McDonalds, Costa, Shell, Whitbread, Howdens and Travelodge.
