Hannah Batten

Managing Associate

Career & Experience

Hannah helps clients to make the most of their intellectual property (IP) rights and other IP related opportunities, by providing strategic advice on the ownership, protection and exploitation of IP rights.

Hannah has particular expertise in drafting and negotiating IP licences, but also advises on a wide range of other non-contentious and transactional IP agreements and other matters.  This includes assignments, collaborations, franchising and sponsorship arrangements, as well as IP issues arising in M&A, joint ventures and investments. She regularly advises on IP ownership within a corporate group structure, and has significant experience of advising charities on trade mark ownership and licensing arrangements.

Hannah takes a very human approach to her advice, and has been described by her clients as ‘approachable’, ‘diligent’ and ‘tenacious’.  She finds earning the trust and confidence of clients the most rewarding aspect of her work, as this leads to genuinely collaborative relationships and the ability to add real value through a deeper understanding of the wider circumstances and personalities (as well as the commercial priorities) involved in a particular situation or deal.

Outside work, Hannah takes every opportunity to travel – she is a keen scuba diver, and would spend most of her time under water if she could.  She also enjoys photography and is a lifelong Formula 1 follower.

Accolades

  • Post-graduate certificate in Intellectual Property Transactions: Law and Practice from UCL (2014).

Testimonials

Don't just take our word for it

It goes without saying that Hannah is highly knowledgeable, but what sets her apart is her approachability, diligence, responsiveness and ability to make a potentially dry subject accessible

CEO of an International Charity

Hannah has been exceptional in every situation and challenge we have asked her to address. She has spent time listening and understanding how we work, and she has got a really good grasp of our culture. This has enabled us to completely trust Hannah – she understands what options would be palatable to us and recommends the solution that would fit us and our culture best.

Tracey John Director of Research, Business and Innovation, UWE Bristol

In receiving the brief, Hannah not only immediately understood the Board’s technical concerns and risk appetite, but also fully appreciated the end-state relationship it wished to achieve with the multinational once the transaction had concluded. Such empathy, combined with exceptional subject matter expertise, enabled the Board to focus without distraction on the value proposition.
