Our Commercial Litigation team share career insights with a local school

Members of our Commercial Litigation team volunteered their time to support Bristol WORKS with a Year 9 Careers Day at Bridge Learning Campus in Bristol. They met with students who were about to make their GCSE subject choices to give them an insight into what a career in law could look like.

Bristol WORKS aims to make quality work experiences and apprenticeships available to every young person. The scheme helps young people to access career pathways and equip them with the skills and knowledge to make positive life choices regardless of their background.

The team ran interactive workshops that gave students an insight into commercial law and life as a lawyer. The workshops involved a lively class debate, encouraging students to work as a team and think broadly about the legal implications of current issues such the impact of social media on young people. They also ran speed networking sessions, where they engaged with small groups of students to discuss their GCSE options and possible future career paths.

Social mobility is a cause our people and firm feel passionate about and is where we are focusing our efforts, as part of our responsible business approach, when it comes to making an impact in our communities. All our colleagues are entitled to two days of paid volunteering leave each year, which can be used to support causes close to their hearts.

"The speed-networking was such a great opportunity for students to get more comfortable talking to unknown adults, and your whole team helped these young people feel confident and comfortable. This will no doubt help them with their work experience next year and support them to make decisions about their future careers."
