Foot Anstey advises British Solar Renewables on landmark £345M financing for 609MW Solar and BESS Portfolio
Foot Anstey’s Energy and Infrastructure team has advised British Solar Renewables (BSR) on a milestone £345 million hybrid portfolio financing - one of the largest of its kind in the UK renewable energy sector to date.
The senior, flexible debt facility was provided by a consortium of leading financial institutions, including Lloyds Bank, NatWest, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Landesbank Baden-Württemberg.
The Foot Anstey team, led by Partner Kutahya Cherry and assisted by Associate Jonathan Dant-Smith and Trainee Solicitor Reece Parsons, advised BSR on all property aspects necessary to secure the financing. Bracewell acted as legal counsel on the structured financing elements of the transaction.
The funding will enable the construction and operation of a 609MW portfolio of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects - enough to power over 160,000 UK homes annually.
BSR continues to contribute to meet the UK’s near-term energy goals while strengthening national resilience.
Commenting on the deal, Kutahya said: “It has been a pleasure to work closely with both the BSR and Bracewell teams to bring this landmark transaction to completion. This is a significant milestone for BSR, and we are seeing more fundraising structures of this scale emerging in the sector, reflecting a maturing solar market capable of attracting major institutional investment.”
Tim Humpage, Chief Executive Officer at British Solar Renewables, said: "This is a landmark moment for BSR and for the UK’s renewable energy future. The transaction was a true team effort - thank you to Kutahya and the Foot Anstey team for their outstanding support. This financing is a true testament to the dedication, hard work and collaboration of everyone involved."
Foot Anstey has a long-standing relationship with BSR, having previously advised on its acquisition of Little Crow Solar Park from INRG Solar.
