Career & Experience

Suriya is a construction lawyer and our net zero construction lead.

Suriya’s core technical specialism is to advice on a range of non-contentious construction matters. Her experience covers energy (including advising on solar power plants and battery storage facilities), development and infrastructure projects. Her broad experience means Suriya considers cross-sector synergies as critical to future-proofing contracts and in facilitating contract/commercial solutions.

Suriya strategically charts procurement options and contractual routes (JCT, NEC, FIDIC, bespoke options etc.) based on the client’s appetite for risk and third party involvement. In order to strategically deliver a project, Suriya engages with the client’s team early in order to respond fully and properly to their requirements, she adds value to clients by taking account of market trends (e.g. net zero and MMC) and enjoys building lasting & positive client relationships.

She  has an in-depth knowledge of the practical, as well as the legal risk-related matters on construction projects, and is proficient at dealing with such risks across complex project documents. Her clients are contractors, private sector developers, funders, consultants, housing associations and public sector bodies.

Suriya supports The Chancery Lane Project and is a member of their Built Environment advisory group. She is a  CBI infrastructure board member and participates actively in the Housing Forum, particularly as a member of its decarbonisation scoping group.

In her spare time Suriya enjoys visiting art exhibitions, travelling and catching-up with friends for coffee.
