Career & Experience

Simon is a Legal Director in our Energy, Projects, Infrastructure and Construction (EPIC) team. Based in our Manchester office, he specialises in advising on national and international construction, development, engineering, infrastructure and energy projects across the spectrum of the sector.

Prior to joining Foot Anstey in February 2024, Simon spent over 15 years working on some of the largest projects in the United Kingdom (including in the nuclear, rail, social infrastructure, defence and real estate / development sectors) and developing his skillset at two major international law firms.  Simon has a track record of delivering for clients and stakeholders on such projects, with his career being marked with a steadfast commitment to delivering strategic, pragmatic, innovative and collaborative legal and commercial solutions.

His experience includes working with all major standard form contracts (NEC, JCT, PPC2000, FAC-1, FIDIC, IChemE, TPC etc.), as well as working with (and drafting) bespoke and sector-specific forms (e.g. EPC contracts for energy).  He also advises on framework and alliancing models, with a focus on delivering long-term collaborative projects, as well as on the development / implementation of supply chain initiatives, operation and maintenance arrangements and the appointment of professional advisers.

Simon advises private and public sector clients – including contractors, sub-contractors, central government bodies, banks / lenders / investors and manufacturers – on all aspects of transactional construction matters across the sector, from the inception of projects and throughout their lifecycles.  Drawing on his in-depth understanding of the sectors in which he works, Simon provides invaluable counsel to clients on how to effectively manage procurement, cost, programme / completion, funding, insolvency and other legal risks to ensure the successful commencement, delivery and post-completion management of projects of varying scales.  He also works closely with his clients’ advisory teams, such as technical consultants and technical procurement specialists and am trusted by clients to effectively collaborate with these other professionals in order to deliver successful projects.

Simon is experienced in advising on security sensitive projects and currently holds a 10-year security clearance issued by the Government Legal Department for the purposes of providing such advice.
