Career and experience
Suriya advises on a range of non-contentious construction matters, focusing on providing practical and commercial advice that allow clients to mitigate their risks. Her experience covers energy (including advising on solar power plants and battery storage facilities), infrastructure projects and waste management, and in undertaking commercial negotiations for clients in development deals. She acts for contractors, private sector developers, funders, consultants, housing associations and public sector bodies.
Suriya works with various forms of contracts such as JCT form contracts, FIDIC, NEC and IChemE and bespoke form contracts, professional team appointments, warranties, bonds, guarantees and associated transactional documents. She has a keen interest in market disruptors such as the carbon neutral agenda – net zero carbon construction, and the innovations and procurement trends brought about by modern methods of construction.
Suriya has an in-depth knowledge of the practical, as well as the legal risk-related matters on construction projects, and is proficient at dealing with such risks across complex project documents. In her spare time Suriya enjoys visiting art exhibitions and travelling
