Career & Experience
Jake is an Associate in our Energy, Projects, Infrastructure and Construction (EPIC) team. He completed his training contract at the firm. Jake advises on a range of both contentious and non-contentious energy and construction matters.
Since qualifying as a solicitor, Jake has assisted several clients with navigating the litigation process, both in court and in a number of adjudications. He also regularly advises on the provisions of standard-form construction contracts (particularly JCT and NEC) as well as bespoke contracts at the pre-action stage with a view to avoiding or resolving any disputes. Some highlights include advice on payment and notice provisions, design responsibility, defects, repudiatory breach and termination, as well as the drafting and negotiation of settlement agreements.
On the non-contentious side, Jake has assisted clients with due diligence on construction documentation forming part of the wider corporate transaction, reporting on and flagging any risks ahead of clients entering into construction contracts and drafting/negotiating professional appointments. On the Energy side, Jake has assisted with interface risk reporting on large EPC and ICP contracts as well as drafted/negotiated power purchase agreements and contracts relating to the provision of EV infrastructure.
Prior to starting his training contract with Foot Anstey, Jake worked as a project manager in the languages industry and, in addition to English, he speaks Danish, German and Spanish and has an understanding of Norwegian and Swedish. Jake enjoys supporting clients to achieve their goals and uses his previous experience to seek out innovative solutions for getting the best outcome for clients.
Outside of work Jake enjoys spending time with his young family, gardening, hiking and travelling when time allows.
