Responsible business in action: Foot Anstey provides pro bono legal advice to socially driven football app Panna Play

Partner Adam McKenna and Associate Megan Berry from Foot Anstey's Corporate team have provided pro bono legal support to Panna Play, an exciting new tech start-up aiming to revolutionise grassroots football.

Panna Play is a social networking app that connects five-a-side football players to local matches. It was founded by two inspiring young entrepreneurs, Mohamed Ali and Hamsa Hassan. The pair developed their business idea with support from Babbasa, a Bristol-based non-profit focused on creating a pathway into rewarding careers for young people, by helping build confidence, develop skills, and move into employment and enterprise.

Adam and Megan provided legal assistance for Panna Play's friends and family fundraising round and the implementation of new constitutional documents. The pair worked closely with Panna Play's founders to ensure the legal foundations of the business were sound. This included drafting new constitutional documents tailored to Panna Play's growth ambitions.

"We are incredibly proud to have supported Mo and Hamsa on their journey," said Adam. "Their vision combines technology and sport in order to build and support community. At Foot Anstey, we're passionate about being a responsible business and these projects help bring that to life. Being able to use our skills to support Panna Play and assist with their long-term growth and social impact was a real privilege."

"Babbasa played a vital role in getting us where we are today," said co-founder Mo Ali. "The pro bono support from Adam and Megan at Foot Anstey gave us the tools to take Panna Play to the next step professionally so we can now focus on developing the business and seeking external funding."

In September 2024, Foot Anstey became one of the first UK law firms to publicly commit to investing at least 1% of its net profits into its responsible business programme. This latest piece of pro bono work is an example of how Foot Anstey is turning its values into action by providing accessible legal services to young entrepreneurs and supporting local communities.
