Beyond Black History Month

At Foot Anstey, diversity and inclusion (D&I) is one of our key strategic priorities. As an inclusive employer, we value individuality and encourage pluralism.

Spearheaded by our dedicated D&I Action Group, we've recently unveiled a number of new projects to promote D&I amongst our people. One such project is our fresh new Awareness Calendar whereby we've committed to marking, in a really meaningful way, special days of significance throughout the year. Our principle aims behind this initiative are to foster a greater sense of belonging and workplace engagement amongst our people, and to align our business with the increasingly globalised markets in which our clients operate.

As part of that initiative, we recently concluded our inaugural celebration of Black History Month. Throughout October, we shared resources each week with our people on four distinct themes: an introduction to Black British History, the role of identity in shaping Black British narrative, the often misunderstood subject of privilege and, lastly, practical ways on how to become an effective ally for underrepresented groups.

Whilst Black History Month presents an invaluable opportunity to recognise the vast cultural and economic contributions made by people of African and Caribbean heritage, we believe its true significance lies in its ability to inspire meaningful change within each of us throughout the year. With that in mind, we concluded the month with an insightful and fun Black History Month Quiz, with three lucky winners being awarded copies of Afua Hirsch's Sunday Times Bestseller, Brit(ish), to encourage those much needed conversations to continue long beyond October.
