Foot Anstey is excited to be participating in the 2022 Retail Week General Counsel Summit, the leading conference for senior legal professionals that work at retailers and brands - focusing on the key challenges facing the retail sector.
Our retail team will lead a panel discussion and chair a roundtable discussion on the topic of 'Tackling Harassment in Retail'. Our research in 2019 and 2021 revealed that nearly two-thirds of shopworkers have experienced offensive behaviour at work. The British Retail Consortium’s open letter to the UK Government in July 2021 called for more protection for shopworkers and featured signatures from the CEOs of multiple well-known brands. Preventing harassment in the retail environment is becoming a touchstone people and business issue so join us at the 2022 Retail Week General Counsel Summit as we discuss the issue in more detail.
- Nathan Peacey, Partner and Head of Retail & Consumer will lead the panel discussion. The session will look at legal's essential role in tackling pressing challenges to protect retailers greatest asset - a workforce that's safe and supported from the shop floor up. Panel speakers include Helena Bescós Menendez de la Granda - European Legal Director & DPO, Costco; Chris Brook-Carter - CEO, Retail Trust and Dominic Kendal-Ward - Group Secretary and General Counsel, Co-op.
- Patrick Howarth, Partner in our Employment and Retail & Consumer teams will be chair the roundtable discussion. This follows on from the panel debate for a more in-depth discussion to address key questions around how legal can take a lead to protect staff from harassment and abuse, from tackling discrimination when it happens, to preventing staff from being put at risk.
