Successful trip to the IBA Conference 2023

As a firm, Foot Anstey are committed to getting out into the international marketplace, drawing on the experience of our teams of lawyers from across the firm, who work on cross-border matters for clients in all parts of the world. With this in mind, we were pleased to attend the IBA annual conference in Paris in November. It is the leading conference for legal professionals worldwide and gave us a great opportunity to meet up with many of our clients and contacts in person. Our attendees at various points over the course of the week included Paul Cox, Annalisa Checchi, Matt Stoate, Nathan Peacey, Karl Bradford and Paolo Sbuttoni.

The conference kicked off with the Opening Ceremony at the Palais des Congrés on Sunday evening with a performance by the cast of Les Misérables who sang a medley from the well-known show, a video address from the French President Emmanuel Macron, a welcome from the IBA President and Michel Barnier who was the Chief Brexit Negotiator for the EU. Following this Paul Cox and Annalisa Checchi attended the Welcome Reception at the Louvre Museum.

For us, Paris was not merely a captivating place of love, romance and unmistakable sights and sounds, but, well, 75 meetings with various law firms covering many jurisdictions.

We were delighted to meet with colleagues from law firms in jurisdictions including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Dubai, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, USA, Uruguay and Vietnam.

Our key takeaway from the week was how much can be achieved by making strong connections in the international marketplace and how meaningful professional relationships can lead to effective collaboration across so many sectors. If we didn't get the opportunity to catch up with you there, please get in touch with us to arrange a call to discuss future opportunities and how we can work together.
