Meet Calum Lovell

Calum is a newly qualified Paralegal in our Charities and Private Wealth Disputes team.

Calum joined Foot Anstey in 2022 as a Paralegal Apprentice, and recently achieved his Level 3 Paralegal qualification with CILEX. He is now progressing with further qualifications through CILEX and the Institute of Legacy Management.

On the job

How did you find your apprenticeship?

I found my apprenticeship very enjoyable. Balancing studying alongside day-to-day work was an interesting and insightful way to learn, as it allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills I learnt from my studies directly to my work.

Since completing my apprenticeship and qualification, I now assist the Contentious Probate team with a variety of legacy disputes on behalf of charity clients.

What do you enjoy most about your role at Foot Anstey?

I really enjoy working with the people in my team and the meaningful work we do.

Working in the Charity sector and the contentious team, I am involved in a number of unique matters that make every day different.

The role's daily challenges along with the need to manage strict deadlines and adapt to changing demands, keep me motivated and driven. Being part of such a fantastic team at such a young age is an incredible opportunity.

What goals do you have in the future ?

I am looking forward to continuing my legal career with the goal of qualifying as a solicitor. As my career progresses, I look forward to gaining more experience in different areas of law. Having started my career journey at a young age, I am always striving to grow personally and professionally, with the ultimate goal of one day becoming as a solicitor.

What's something that has stood out to you about working in the legacy sector?

It has been fascinating to learn how vital legacy income is to charities and how many rely on it to sustain their operations. The legacy sector is a very collaborative area of law, which allows people from across the sector to build relationships and seek advice when various issues arise. As I mentioned earlier, the types of cases we see in the contentious world each have their own individual quirks which makes them interesting to work on.

Off the job

Could you tell us a bit more about your passions outside of work?

I'm a car enthusiast and my favourite car is a Porsche 911 Turbo S - it is the ultimate car in my eyes! I'm also an avid football fan and have supported Manchester United for as long as I can remember. My entire family supports the club, so I was naturally drawn to them when I was younger.
