Future trainee at the firm, Melissa Story, tells us about making her Test Match Special debut for the England Women vs New Zealand Women ODI.
Melissa graduated from the University of Southampton in 2021 and is currently undertaking her GDL at the University of Law in Bristol which will enable her to start her training contract with us in September 2023.
How long have you been playing Cricket for?
"I have been playing Cricket since I was a little girl and involved with Hampshire Cricket since 2016. The sport is kind of a family sport, as my dad plays it too. It was through my involvement with the Vipers team in the Southampton area that I was given the opportunity to try sport commentary for the team."
How did it feel to be invited to comment on the England Women vs New Zealand Match?
"Amazing, it was a bit of a 'pinch-me' moment because as a Cricket player it is a dream to be able to take part in such an extraordinary match. What made it even more special is the fact it was announced I was the youngest to ever make a Test Match Special debut. It was a fantastic experience and I extremely grateful for all the opportunities that I have been able to have through playing Cricket and BBC Solent and BBC TMS."
What's next?
"I am currently studying my GDL at University of Law in Bristol, once this is complete, I will then go on to do the LPC and then begin my training contract at Foot Anstey in 2023. I am extremely excited for what is to come because I worked so hard to gain a place with the firm. The recruitment process was incredibly informative and enabled me to really see what I would get from doing my training contract at Foot Anstey.
"As for Cricket – I will definitely continue to play in my spare time and help out on match commentary when and where I can."
