Banking & Finance Solicitor/Associate

Banking & Finance

Bristol or Southampton

Apply now

Following significant successes and growth in our corporate and banking teams in recent years, we are now seeking to recruit an ambitious Solicitor or Associate to join our growing Banking & Finance team.

With a range of offices available for you to work from in combination with home-based working, this is a fantastic opportunity to work in our Banking & Finance team to develop your experience, and further your career in an ambitious, collaborative and supportive setting.

What you’ll do

You will work on both borrower and lender side transactions, working with the team from the beginning (including structuring and quoting) through to the completion of a deal. You’ll benefit from exposure to a wide range of work, including acquisition finance, real estate finance, clearing bank panel transactions, supporting our corporate team with MBOs and private equity transactions and supporting our R&I team on restructurings – a wide variety of interesting deals. You will have excellent opportunities for client contact, good quality work, and the opportunity to develop more junior lawyers and trainees in your work.

You will be central to the continued success of the team, developing your own client relationships and driving business development initiatives. You will take a solutions-led approach, listening to the client’s challenges and providing a bespoke, premium solution. You’ll benefit from all the support you need to develop your networking and client-facing skills, whilst continuing to develop your technical skills too.

You will have already gained some experience of working on a range of corporate banking transactions, and be seeking to expand your skills and knowledge, whilst being supported by an experienced team. We are keen to enable you to take on responsibility for dealing with high quality, high value work and will be afforded high levels of responsibility from the outset. By working together, we’ll ensure you have the right environment to flourish, in order to achieve your longer-term career ambitions.

What we’re looking for

An ambitious and capable Solicitor or Associate with experience within a Banking & Finance practice, you’ll be accustomed to working under pressure to meet challenging deadlines. With good general banking experience, you will be highly motivated and solution-focussed in order to deliver the best service to your clients.

Being a team player is essential – we have a very collaborative environment, with a growing, well-structured, close-knit team (including a paralegal and two trainees) and we enjoy working together at all stages with an environment in which all questions and ideas are encouraged.

You will be keen to take on responsibilities for driving client relationships forward to build strong professional connections with our clients, and gain the insights and expertise needed to offer hands on, practical advice to them on an ongoing basis; we will provide you with every opportunity to do this within a supportive team environment. In return for your commitment and focus, we will provide you with the genuine scope to fast track your career within a team with a proven track record of developing and progressing its lawyers. We are proud to say that we do not operate glass ceilings, so your career progression will be entirely based on merit and under your control. Even better, the quality of work you will have access to is not connected to your location, so if you are the best person for the client, then you will work with them.

Our offer to you

In return for your efforts, you can expect considerable scope for personal, as well as professional, development. We encourage people to engage with our popular and well supported coaching and mentoring programmes, which connect you to people right across the firm and at every level. We create space for mental and physical wellbeing with our weekly Lifestyle Hour, along with 28 days’ annual leave (plus a day in your birthday month), private medical insurance (eligibility applies) and a sabbatical you can take every 5 years. You can also buy holiday, managing your benefits flexibly using our sophisticated portal to configure your total reward offer according to what you value most. As part of this, you can make ongoing or one-off donations to our charitable foundation and access our CSR programme where you can engage with community-based initiatives (as a team, or individually) twice a year, to give something back where you feel it matters.
