LOCAL WORLD – Media business
Local World is one of the country’s largest media businesses, which brings together Northcliffe Media and Iliffe News and Media, and is responsible for 107 titles reaching over 6 million people per week. Foot Anstey continues to manage Local World’s entire trade mark portfolio consisting of approximately 200 registered trade marks, and we regularly provide advice in relation to Local World's branding strategy. Over the past year, this has included trade mark renewals, trade mark watching, filing new applications and assisting with trade mark infringement issues. We have also assisted Local World with a number of commercial agreements including competition terms and a licensing and revenue share agreement relating to video content from Associated Press.
This multi-media company operates throughout the UK. It wholly owns and operates local commercial radio stations and has a large portfolio of websites. It has interests in other media related businesses. We were instructed to take over the Group’s entire trade mark portfolio and to advise them on how best to improve and strengthen this in line with their business strategy, including establishing intra-group licence agreements. Following the sale of one of its operating subsidiaries, a dispute arose over the use of a trade mark and we put in place a settlement agreement, successfully drawing the matter to a conclusion.
We have advised them on implementing a prominent toy retailer's trade mark portfolio, including strategic advice, registration of marks across various territories, and the enforcement of a trade mark against a competitor in continental Europe.
