  • Acting for the publishers of several regional newspapers in defending and dealing with injunction applications made against them. One example saw a local authority make an unsuccessful application for a breach of privacy injunction against the Thanet Gazette. The local authority's without notice application was unsuccessful, and our assistance ensured that there were no adverse costs consequences for our client
  • Advising our regional newspaper clients about the law relating to social media and the internet. With the rise of social media, and newspapers' use of it to spread content, an issue of particular concern for many of our clients has been the contempt risk caused by user generated content, when comments are posted on Facebook, for example. In one particular case, concerns about Facebook comments were raised by a Crown Court Judge. We advised the editor and dealt with the situation quickly, with the result that no further action was taken against our client
  • Acting for the publisher of the Isle of Man Examiner, the newspaper's editor and one of its reporters in libel proceedings brought by a prominent Isle of Man businessman, and in subsequent English proceedings which we successfully applied to be stayed on forum non conveniens grounds
