As well as general commercial and "business as usual" advice on contracts, licences and brand management, our experience includes acting for one of the "big six" suppliers in relation to an OFGEM investigation into breach of licence conditions and into fair treatment of customers. We have also advised energy retail clients on the development or procurement of new customer account management software and energy trading platforms to support their expanding customer base and need for innovative, speedy software solutions.

Advising on energy storage projects since mid-2015 and working closely with clients on grid scale and commercial and industrial standalone solutions, the EFR National Grid Tender and Capacity Market and helping its developer and asset manager client base look at several storage projects co-located with renewable generation. An expanding base of cleantech clients bringing technical solutions to market in Smart Metering, Grid Limitation Technology, Trading Platforms and Account Management Software.  Advising on several other fast-response installations, assisting our clients with capacity market pre-qualification and bid process, land agreements for Combined Cycle Gas Turbines and Diesel generator Sets as well as battery installations.  Highlights include advising an equity-funded Energy Storage Developer on developing ground-breaking PPA/pass-through contract for battery portfolio, and commissioning some of the first UK projects as well as on battery supply agreements, leases and project funding.

As well as advising on major biomass and EfW projects, we have recently advised a major utility on the acquisition of a market-leading CHP business, conducting full UK diligence and co-ordinating international teams, as well as on SPA and corporate aspects and providing extensive technology and IP advice on proprietary systems. This has supported our practice advising on heat networks in a number of new residential developments, as well as giving us a solid understanding of the role CHP can play in an efficient heat and power network.

We advise all parties at each stage of the project lifecycle, from large developers to finance providers and PPA counterparties. We can help develop a clients' long-term strategy, assessing financial projections and tax implications of renewables projects in partnership with specialist advisors where appropriate. We then assist with corporate structuring, JV agreements, and funding arrangements before helping with planning, permitting and pre-build work on grid connection, PPAs and DNOs. We are also then pleased to help our clients with sale or refinancing of projects to allow clients to realise their investments and plan the next phase of their activities. Recenthighlights include acting for a leading UK solar developer on all aspects of their portfolio roll out advising on property, planning and grid as well as negotiating commercial supply contracts for panels, inverters and ancillary equipment, and negotiating PPA/offtake arrangements; advising the developer on bespoke grid share arrangements for 5+5 sites and then advising on construction financing and refinancing; acting on sale of numerous energy parks ranging from 5 to 50MW; and successfully defending a notable judicial review of the planning permission for a wind energy project.

We have developed a leading practice in community-led renewable energy projects, and have acted for various CICs, co-operatives and community benefit societies on a wide range of projects. This started in earnest with work establishing Plymouth Energy Community in developing partnership models with ethical power companies such as OVO Energy (followed by advice on governance, state aid, solar park development, rooftop roll-out, energy efficiency contractor framework arrangements etc) ,and has led to advising on a substantial number of community renewables projects including large scale rooftop solar PV roll outs and refinancing.

We provide a streamlined package of services to support project acquisitions and financing. We have advised a variety of energy developers (CleanEarth Energy, Eden Sustainable and BSR) on the acquisition, financing and refinancing of several wind and solar PV portfolios. We are accustomed to working alongside other professionals and managing the entire CP process from project due diligence and the provision of CLLS Certificates to advising on the facility agreements, security package and direct agreements. We are equally experienced at dealing with the sale of projects including preparing portfolios for sale.

We continue to advise on a variety of developments on nuclear sites and other land which form part of the nuclear new build programme. Our team has experience advising on nuclear site licensing conditions and de-designation issues as well as the development, construction and relocation of facilities in connection with the new build programme.
