Tim qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and has built up a substantial criminal and regulatory practice nationwide advising clients facing investigation or prosecution by the police or other regulatory bodies with the power to impose sanctions. Tim works closely with clients to anticipate regulatory risks in their sector and review practices and procedures in place within the business to minimise the risk of adverse issues arising. Tim regularly delivers training to senior leaders looking at crisis and critical incident planning and response.
Tim has particular experience of defending individuals accused of fraud in the Crown Court. This experience extends to private prosecution work as well as defence work.
Given his experience in the criminal courts, Tim is regularly instructed to advise and represent clients in the marine sector where they are bringing a case against an individual or business for breach of local, national or international shipping regulations.
This practice is firmly rooted in the Crown Court but does also include all types of matters dealt with in the Magistrates Court, in particular driving cases. Tim was recognised as a leader in this field in both legal directories from being 3 years qualified.
Having built up a substantial criminal practice since 2007, Tim advises schools, colleges and universities on regulatory matters (exclusions for example) and has worked with families with children with special educational needs in cases before the First Tier and Upper Tribunal where issues under consideration relate to the Education, Health and Care Plan prepared by the local authority.
Tim is able to use his experience of this broad range of regulatory work to proactively and helpfully support commercial clients and private individuals in a sensitive, responsive and commercial way.
Tim is recognised by Chambers UK as being "efficient and effective" with "a strong regulatory practice". Tim is noted for being a “strong criminal and regulatory lawyer” with “significant criminal practice”. He is also recognised by the Legal 500 as a star performer "whose work ethic is equalled by his judgement“.
