Ian is a Partner in the firm's construction team. He brings over 30 years' experience in the property, infrastructure and construction sector, having begun his career as a quantity surveyor and a contracts manager, before re-qualifying as a lawyer and specialising in transactional legal aspects of construction and engineering projects. Prior to joining Foot Anstey, Ian was a partner at an international law firm headquartered in London, where he headed up a team working on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects.
Ian's vast experience includes working on many major national and international projects across industry sectors including energy, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and technology, waste management, leisure, education and real estate. His specialism is in providing strategic transactional advice on contracting structures, finance and procurement methodology, contract drafting and negotiations and on project delivery. Ian also has a strong, industry-based operational understanding of contracting and delivery issues, particularly in relation to the funding, procurement, implementation and commissioning of complex construction and engineering projects.
Ian is also an externally recognised expert on his subject area, having spoken at conferences held by the European Construction Institute and by the Engineering & Construction Risk Institute on legal issues affecting those involved on major construction projects, as well as at events organised by other construction industry professional bodies, such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
