Patricia Wass, Consultant and Head of Foot Anstey's Mental Capacity team has been elected as the next chair of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Worldwide, the professional association for practitioners that has 20,000 members in nearly 100 countries dealing with family inheritance and succession planning. This prestigious position is in recognition of her global leadership as well as her professional expertise advising families across generations.
This latest appointment (which will take place from 01/01/2017) by STEP is further accreditation for Patricia, having previously been just one of two Deputy Chairs of STEP. In addition to being recognised as a 'Leader in her Field' by Chambers UK legal directory, Patricia is currently one of just 71 professionals in England & Wales to act as a Panel Deputy for the Court of Protection in situations where people who lack capacity require specialist help to manage their financial and personal affairs.
At Foot Anstey, under Patricia's stewardship, the Mental Capacity Team has grown exponentially over the recent years from managing only a handful of professional Deputyships to now managing over 100, with an excess of £30 million under management together with considerable annual periodical payments.
Robert Antrobus, partner and group leader of the clinical negligence, personal injury and mental capacity teams said: "Patricia's global appointment shows recognition of the firm's knowledge in this complex area of the law. She secured her new appointment with an exceptional vote of confidence; we, at the firm, are all so proud. It also underlines the firm's commitment to ensuring that vulnerable clients have access to the highest quality of advice and service."
Commenting on her appointment, Patricia said: "I am delighted and honoured to be elected as the next Chair of the Society. I have been actively involved with STEP for over 20 years and I know how important ongoing membership has been to me in assisting with my education and increasing my knowledge of my area of the law. It has also given me the opportunity to meet many like-minded people both in my own jurisdiction and in jurisdictions across the world. I want all of our members to be fully engaged wherever they are based, valuing their STEP membership and being able to appreciate all the benefits that it brings."
