We are seeking an experienced Senior Real Estate Lawyer with a focus on advising registered providers and private developers on affordable housing matters, to join our successful and highly regarded Developer sector team, which forms part of our wider Real Estate team. Based from Bristol, Southampton, our Oxford hub or another of our office bases to suit you, with a blend of office and home working available based around team, client and business need, this is a superb opportunity for an ambitious and motivated senior lawyer to play a key role in the delivery of our growth strategy for the Developers sector and broader Real Estate offering.
What you'll do
With an impressive range of housing association clients and substantial panel relationships already in place across the registered provider spectrum with multiple tenders currently in progress or nearing completion with a view to instruction, we are now in an ideal position to invest in expanding our specialist affordable housing sector capacity. With a track record which shows your energy and aptitude to build and grow client relationships in this sector, you will focus on premium development sites, supporting joint ventures and drafting agreements for developers which confirm the profile of their social housing offering. You will be accustomed to working with leading affordable housing developers and have an innate understanding of their needs, expectations and the timescales they like to work to. Your work will encompass acting for registered providers and developers in the acquisition and disposal of land for affordable housing development, working collaboratively with our Conveyancing Services team with reference to disposals. With a strong network of contacts, you are ready to move into a more prominent and independent role at a senior level, where you can expect to be well supported and encouraged as part of our 50+ strong Developers sector team.
In this prominent role, you will be leading on matters directly whilst supervising junior members (who may be based elsewhere) and sharing work across the region in collaboration with the wider Developers team. Your focus will be to deliver exceptional client service, working with colleagues to strengthen the skills needed at each level to ensure our Developer clients receive all the support they need, when they need it. As part of our growth strategy for Real Estate, you will be actively involved in recruiting and retaining your team, supporting their development and ensuring they enhance their technical skills over time. Working with Patrick Wetherall, Tim Wheen, Lara Borrett-Lynch and the wider Developers team, you will be adept at handling large and complex affordable housing development matters, ensuring work is being done at the right level and with client service central to everything you do.
What we're looking for
With extensive recent experience working at a senior level within an affordable housing or regulated housing development team, you will be seeking to take the next step in your career, where you can enhance your profile and create new and lasting connections with household name clients. We're seeking someone who is personally self-motivated and equally able to motivate others, with the enthusiasm and commitment to share knowledge and build capacity across the wider team. In your current work, you will be a strong business developer, able to engage with new clients whilst expanding existing relationships as a trusted business advisor. You do this by readily understanding the commercial context of your clients and the nuances and influences which shape the social housing development sector. You will have already worked hard to begin building your profile with these clients and are positive and active in engaging with a variety of business development opportunities within the national and regional social housing networks.
We're seeking someone to invest in who will build and grow the affordable housing development practice, and be proactive, motivated and ambitious for it’s success. In return, you will be fully encouraged, supported and resourced to be successful in growing your practice, and complementing the considerable skills across the sector team. You'll be keen to progress and we will work with you to ensure you realise your potential by agreeing realistic and achievable goals which will get you to where you want to go.
Our offer to you
In return for your efforts, you can expect considerable scope for personal as well as professional development. Tailored to match the level you're working at, we encourage people to engage with our popular and well supported coaching and mentoring programmes, which connect you to people right across the firm and at every level. We create space for mental and physical wellbeing with our weekly Lifestyle Hour, along with private medical insurance for all lawyers, 28 days annual leave and a sabbatical you can take every 5 years. Employees can also buy and sell holiday, managing your benefits flexibly using our sophisticated portal to configure your total reward offer according to what you value most. As part of this, you can make ongoing or one-off donations to our charitable foundation and access our CSR programme where you can engage with community-based initiatives (as a team, or individually) twice a year, to give something back where you feel it matters.
