Senior Property Litigation Lawyer

Real Estate Disputes

Bristol, Exeter

Apply now

We are currently seeking to recruit a motivated and experienced Senior Property Litigation to join our growing Real Estate Disputes team.

Based from Bristol or Exeter, this is an excellent opportunity to work directly with Patrick Wetherall (Head of Foot Anstey's Developer Sector, the Real Estate Disputes team and the Real Estate Group) and other members of the wider team on a variety of commercial property dispute matters.

Joining us, you will be part of a future-focussed, ambitious team with our sights on being recognised as one of the leading regional Real Estate Disputes teams in the UK.

What you'll be doing

In this exciting and varied contentious property role opportunity, you will play an important part in growing and developing the Real Estate Disputes team over time. You will handle your own caseload and assist on more complex and technical matters whilst knowing when and how to seek support and guidance on more challenging matters. Leading on matters directly, you'll help to supervise junior members (who may be based elsewhere) and will be positive and proactive in sharing work across the region in collaboration with the wider team.

You will be involved in all aspects of property litigation, working with private clients as well as corporate clients and retailers, landowner developers, and property developers and investors. We are proud of our highly collaborative culture, and you'll experience this first-hand by working closely with our planning, construction and asset management teams when the opportunities arise.

Your focus will be to deliver exceptional client service, working with colleagues to strengthen the skills needed at each level to ensure our clients receive all the support they need, when they need it. We will encourage you to actively engage with clients early on, supporting you to increase your confidence through high quality supervision, and promoting further independence over time. With a varied caseload and opportunities to work with high calibre senior lawyers and partners across the firm, you will be ideally positioned to further develop your expertise and understanding of the specific context, needs and challenges which impact upon our clients.

We're keen to support your engagement with business development activities, as we are committed to developing strong and lasting professional relationships with our clients. By partnering with our clients, we gain the insights and expertise needed to offer relevant, practical and timely advice on an ongoing basis. In addition to benefiting from your team's support, you will also have access to our Business Skills Academy, which has been specifically designed by us for our lawyers, to develop and refine client engagement and business development confidence and skills.

What we're looking for

You will be joining us at an exciting moment as we plan our ambitious strategy for growth over the next five years. You might already be seeking a positive and proactive environment where you can realise your own entrepreneurial potential by building new client relationships whilst nurturing existing ones. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with industry leading clients. With strong knowledge across a range of contentious property matters, you will be experienced in disputes concerning development land (including telecoms related) and property contracts as well as commercial landlord and tenant matters such as dilapidations, break notices, forfeiture, and breach of lease covenants. You will be also focused on providing your clients with relevant and timely advice which demonstrates your understanding of their business needs and priorities.

You will possess strong communication skills, have excellent attention to detail and be able to organise yourself effectively to meet deadlines as needed. You'll be personally motivated to continue developing your skills with clients, seeking to understand the wider context of their business interests.

Our offer to you

In return for your efforts, you can expect considerable scope for personal as well as professional development. Tailored to match the level you're working at, we encourage people to engage with our popular and well supported coaching and mentoring programmes, which connect you to people right across the firm and at every level. We create space for mental and physical wellbeing with our weekly Lifestyle Hour, along with private medical insurance for all lawyers, 28 days annual leave and a sabbatical you can take every 5 years. Employees can also buy holiday, managing your benefits flexibly using our sophisticated portal to configure your total reward offer according to what you value most. As part of this, you can make ongoing or one-off donations to our charitable foundation and access our CSR programme where you can engage with community-based initiatives (as a team, or individually) twice a year, to give something back where you feel it matters.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process which includes a financial integrity check and a DBS check. If you wish to discuss any issues or questions in connection with this, please do speak in confidence with a member of the Talent Acquisition Team. Contact us at [email protected] and we will come back to you as soon as we can.
