Senior Corporate Lawyer

Corporate

Bristol, Exeter, Southampton, Plymouth or Truro

Apply now

Our Corporate team has enjoyed significant growth and success in recent years, and we expect this to continue for the foreseeable future as part of our ambitious plans to enhance and extend our client offering. In order to ensure we can meet our clients' needs as we grow, we are looking for Senior Corporate Lawyers to join the team in any of our offices, with a blend of home and office working available based around client and team needs. You will be joining us at an exciting moment as we plan our ambitious strategy for growth over the next five years. You might already be a Senior or Managing Associate, Legal Director or a Partner at your current firm, and are seeking a positive and proactive environment where you can realise your own entrepreneurial potential by building new client relationships whilst nurturing existing ones. You'll play a key part in developing a new and exciting Corporate offering within an entrepreneurial and ambitious firm. As such, you can expect an attractive and competitive salary and bonus package, with an impressive range of benefits reflecting our firm culture and focus on wellbeing and flexibility.

We're open minded about your location as we positively support hybrid working to get the best from being together as a team, whilst having focussed time away from the office, based around the needs of the client. In particular, we have identified considerable opportunity for growth in Bristol and Southampton.

Depending upon your preference, we will be able to support you to develop your practice, whether it's in:

Private Equity: we have developed a market-leading reputation as an advisor of Private Equity-backed portfolio companies and their management teams, and have a significant specialism in bolt-on and buy-and-build M&A.

Entrepreneurial Private Companies (EPC): From start-up, investment rounds, growth (organically or through buy and build strategies), group restructurings and exits, we work with our EPC clients as trusted advisors. We invest in our teams to understand the niche requirements of our clients and their business to ensure that they have the support needed for each stage of their journey.

Corporates: Working with large corporates and investment portfolios, General Counsel and law firms to design bespoke Business Transaction services to support multijurisdictional M&A and group restructurings, strategic growth/buy & build/divestment programmes and joint ventures.

What you'll do

As a key senior hire, you will be central to the continued success of the Corporate team, managing your own clients and driving business development initiatives. You are already strongly connected in your own networks, with a profile which reflects your ability to win and develop new and lasting client relationships. Day to day, you will take a solutions led approach, listening to clients' challenges and understanding their businesses in order to provide tailored advice and bespoke, premium solutions. Depending upon your chosen area of Corporate law, you will be involved in a wide range of work, and we would look to you to build out our market reputation in your chosen area. Benefiting from the support of a highly regarded, experienced and collegiate team, you will be involved in the recruitment, development and supervision of junior team members over time, and have considerable opportunity to advance your career at a pace which is right for you.

What we're looking for

With at least 6 years' PQE, you are already a high performing Corporate Lawyer. You will be wholly committed to delivering an exceptional client experience in every interaction, and take pride in understanding your client's needs, challenges and expectations. In doing this, you consistently deliver timely and appropriate, personalised advice and support in order to meet their needs, forging strong ongoing relationships in the process. You are accustomed to working with independence and are also proactive in seeking support from colleagues when needed, as teamwork is important to us with geography being no barrier to our team integration and work sharing. You will have access to a large number of paralegals, and junior lawyers to senior associates to enable you to focus on the key areas of transactions and business development. You will be ambitious to take the new step in your career in a buoyant and thriving Corporate team where you can further strengthen your profile, working with high quality clients on a wide variety of deals.

In terms of career progression, ours is a genuinely exciting and different proposition, as you will have real and supported scope to fast track your career within a team with a proven track record of developing and progressing its lawyers. We pride ourselves on our openness and transparency when it comes to promotions, so please ask us about our career framework for lawyers, and our Business Skills Academy to find out more about how this works in practice. With no glass ceilings, your career progression is entirely based on merit and under your own control. Furthermore, given we operate a national service line approach, the quality of work shared with you is in no way impacted by your location. If you are the best person for the client, you will work with them.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process which includes a financial integrity check and a DBS check. If you wish to discuss any issues or questions in connection with this, please do speak in confidence with a member of the Talent Acquisition Team. Contact us at [email protected] and we will come back to you as soon as we can.

Our offer to you

In return for your efforts, you can expect considerable scope for personal as well as professional development. We encourage people to engage with our popular and well supported coaching and mentoring programmes, which connect you to people right across the firm and at every level. We create space for mental and physical wellbeing with our weekly Lifestyle Hour, along with 28 days annual leave, private medical insurance (eligibility applies) and a sabbatical you can take every 5 years. You can also buy holiday, managing your benefits flexibly using our sophisticated portal to configure your total reward offer according to what you value most. As part of this, you can make ongoing or one-off donations to our charitable foundation and access our CSR programme where you can engage with community-based initiatives (as a team, or individually) twice a year, to give something back where you feel it matters.
