What you'll do
With an impressive client list spanning some of the leading UK and international retail, media and technology brands, we are now seeking to further invest in our Retail Sector development through the addition of a senior lawyer, to be based from Bristol, Southampton or Exeter with blended home/ office working. Working with Retail Sector lead Nathan Peacey as part of a motivated and supportive team, you will be instrumental in expanding our practice through leadership of successful tenders and securing new client instructions, whilst focussing on deepening established client relationships and opportunities for larger, more complex work. We are especially keen to enhance the team and offering to clients with senior expertise, which could include the procurement of complex technology, management of data, protection of intellectual property, payment mechanisms, distribution channels, franchising and logistics.
Working closely with the partners to build the profile of the Retail Sector, you will be directly involved in growing this practice area in line with the wider objectives and goals of the firm. In terms of team context, our ambitious Commercial team provides commercial, IP, Data and Technology advice to a broad range of clients. It is complemented by Partners specialising in contentious IP, FS and commercial regulatory and Partners embedded in the Infrastructure and Energy team. We are continually investing time and resources into technology to improve our business and the business of our clients.
With your experience, you will be accustomed to delegating work to, and supervising, junior lawyers and trainees to ensure that work is done at the right level and to allow you to focus on more complex matters. Naturally, you enjoy working as part of a team and are skilled in managing and supporting others in order to develop a high performing team environment.
As an ambitious, client-centric advisor, you will be looking to join a firm of like-minded individuals who are motivated to grow a practice supporting consumer facing businesses meet the challenges of digital marketplaces. We genuinely feel enthused by the opportunities which new workstreams will bring, whilst delivering broader and more complex business solutions offering sustained growth within our existing client base. With your experience at a senior level, you will have begun to develop your own potentially extensive network of contacts, and consider yourself to be a positive, market facing and credible business advisor to clients in the Retail sector.

You will be experienced in managing and supervising junior lawyers and will know how to get the best from the people around you. You will be a strong communicator capable of building good rapport with clients and colleagues alike and will have the resilience to work under pressure by organising yourself effectively to meet deadlines as needed.
We're open minded when it comes to location, though it's important to us that you will be visible at one of our key offices for Commercial in Bristol, Southampton or Exeter as business, client or team needs dictate. Developing the talent of the future and promoting the cohesion, motivation and effectiveness of the team will be a key part of your role with us.

The recruitment process
