We are looking for a Probate and Estate Administration Specialist to work in our dynamic and fast-growing Charities team.  The team deals with a range of contentious and non-contentious work for national charities, and includes a team focused purely on non-contentious probate and estate administration work. Our Charities team is ranked in tier 1 for Charities (Legacies) UK-wide in Chambers. This is a great opportunity to work with a high calibre client base from the outset. We're flexible as to where and how this role is fulfilled, you can expect to work flexibly from home and in the office as needed to meet the changing needs of our clients and the wider business.

If you are motivated, energetic and have a wealth of experience in probate and estate administration – whether in the charity sector or otherwise – this exciting opportunity could be the role for you.

What you'll do

You will have your own busy and complex caseload from the start, taking responsibility for all aspects of administering estates where our charity client is the executor or administrator. You will report to our head of charity estate administration and will work closely with a growing team of solicitors and other practitioners specialising in probate for charities, at various levels.   The team forms part of our overall Charities team, which has evolved to meet the varying needs of our charity clients, such as dispute resolution, legacy income management, property, and governance.

You will be working within an innovative environment where being proactive and forward thinking on behalf of our clients is actively promoted.  We use bespoke technology solutions and legal design to interact with our clients in order to deliver exceptional service. We encourage personal development through our Business Skills & Digital Skills Academy and other opportunities such as client secondments.

What we're looking for

Our experience tells us that excellent probate and estate administration specialists can come from a range of different backgrounds.  We're therefore open to receiving applications from anyone who is a positive and client-focused team player and can demonstrate significant experience and expertise in this field, including the numerous tax issues that arise in estates and, ideally, the specific issues that charities can face during the process.

We are ideally looking for a solicitor, chartered legal executive or TEP who has specialised in probate and estate administration work for 5 years or more. The role would also suit a charity legacy officer or manager with a legal background (5 years +) or experience of probate and estate administration within an institutional setting (e.g. a bank or trust company) for a minimum of 10 years.

With your level of experience, you will be used to supervising and/or supporting the development of junior fee earners and be positive and approachable in doing so.

We consider ourselves to be a high performing, welcoming and inclusive team, and your first-class communication skills will enable you to become a key member, gaining the trust of a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you will have exceptional opportunities to develop strong and lasting client relationships, and you will be personally motivated and enthusiastic about this prospect, with a view to building or extending your profile in this complex and challenging area of law. As part of an ambitious and enthusiastic team, we will support you to engage in or lead a range of business development opportunities in order to continue developing your profile and progressing your career over time.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process which includes a financial integrity check and a DBS check. If you wish to discuss any issues or questions in connection with this, please do speak in confidence with a member of the Talent Acquisition Team. Contact us at [email protected] and we will come back to you as soon as we can.

Our offer to you

In return for your efforts, you can expect considerable scope for personal as well as professional development. We encourage people to engage with our popular and well supported coaching and mentoring programmes, which connect you to people right across the firm and at every level. We create space for mental and physical wellbeing with our weekly Lifestyle Hour, 28 days annual leave, and a sabbatical you can take every 5 years. You can also buy holiday and manage your benefits flexibly using our sophisticated portal to configure your total reward offer according to what you value most. As part of this, you can make ongoing or one-off donations to our charitable foundation and access our CSR programme where you can engage with community-based initiatives (as a team, or individually) twice a year, to give something back where you feel it matters.
