Life at Foot Anstey

Matthew Parr - Second year trainee

Matthew Parr - First year trainee

I studied for the LLB at Plymouth University and Foot Anstey has always played an active role in working closely with the University in organising events such as Young Enterprise Week and career fairs. As such the firm has always stood out to me as being a forward thinking and modern firm which appealed to me greatly.

The firm offers trainees a fantastic opportunity to select from a wide range of teams to work in across the offices each offering a different chance to try new things. At present I am in the Employment and Pensions team and have found the work appealing and the people very friendly and always on hand to offer help. I have been given challenging work to do for high profile national companies at one end of the scale and private individuals at the other.

I have also worked in the Commercial Property and Private Client Teams and thoroughly enjoyed my time in both, with each offering different sets of challenges and enhancing different skills.

So far the firm has really encouraged a good balance between work and social life with regular work drink evenings, lunches and involvement in charity events. I have already taken part in a charity abseil down Drake Circus shopping Centre (twice!) for which Foot Anstey has been very supportive.

I have really enjoyed my training contract so far and feel like one of the team already, I would definitely recommend applying for a training contract with the firm if you want the support and encouragement of a smaller firm but the variation of work of a larger City firm!
