Food & Drink
The south west of England is recognised as a market leader in the food and drink sector with successful and sustainable producers offering a wide variety of product choice. It is a region with a firmly established and high profile food culture, supported by all involved in the food chain including farmers, processors, distributors, pubs, restaurants and consumers; a place people set up business in or visit because of the quality of its food.
Being the largest law firm with offices in the Somerset, Devon and Cornwall peninsula, it is natural for Foot Anstey to have built up a client base and association with the food and drink sector. We are committed to the “buy local” ethos and sponsor food and drink events and awards across the region. Our clients range from start up, family owned and growing SMEs to nationally recognised brands. Both ends of the food and drink spectrum are looking for our varied experience to add value to their business.
What do we do?
Our food and drink team focus on what happens to raw ingredients on their journey from the farm gate to an end user, whether restaurant, hotel, shop or the public direct. For example:
- Branding, including trade marks, copyright and design rights
- Supply chain and distribution agreements including import/export logistics
- Advertising, including comparative advertising, unfair competition and passing off.
- Product liability, including media management, claims handling and group litigation
- Health and safety at work
- Public sector food procurement
The Bigger Picture
We see the bigger picture and do not advise in isolation from the other factors that affect your decisions. Depending on which stage of the food chain your business is involved in, we have lawyers who can consider any agricultural or leisure issues – please see Agriculture and Rural Business or Leisure for further details.
We also advise our food and drink clients on their day to day business decisions in the fields of employment law, premises acquisition or disposal, disputes and tax.
