The Insurance Litigation team at Foot Anstey has established a niche practice dealing with major European insurers, UK insurers and brokers, and acts for both private and public sector clients.
We have a team with a vast experience in all areas of insurance litigation ranging from small value claims to £1million cases.
We pride ourselves on producing practical solutions to our clients’ problems, providing comprehensive advice in all areas including reserve, quantum, liability and tactics at an early stage.
As businesses are looking to control the cost of business insurance, increasing the percentage of risk they ’self-insure’ and handling lower value claims in-house, the team are able to offer those businesses a responsive, cost effective business support service for the higher value claims that may still require legal action.
The team can also deal with first party disputes concerning insurance indemnity/cover issues.
Kelvin Farmaner, Partner and Unit Leader, qualified in 2000 having trained with Foot Anstey. He is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) and was appointed head of the national FOIL EL/PL Special Interest Group in 2009. Kelvin is one of 2 lawyers at Foot Anstey with conduct of Mirvahedy v Henley which was decided in 2003 in the House of Lords (on which the Court defined the responsibilities of keepers of animals under Section 2 of the Animals Act 1971). This has led Kelvin to establish a niche practice in dealing with claims involving animals and instructions have been received from UK based insurers to defend such cases.
In addition, Kelvin also acts for major French, German, Dutch, Spanish and Italian insurers via their UK claims handling agents.
James Parsons has acted in insurance work since qualification in 1972, representing major domestic and European insurers in Defendant work. For over 25 years he has specialised in the European insurance market.
Bethany Blamire qualified into the insurance litigation team in 2005. Bethany deals with insurance and personal injury work and has been appointed to the Law Society’s Specialist Personal Injury Panel.
