Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon This Weekend!
Over 400 athletes will take part in the twelfth Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon this weekend.
The race, which takes place on Sunday 17th May at Wellington Sports Centre, has something for every level of fitness with experienced athletes and ‘first timers’ competing on the same course.
The sprint event is for experienced athletes whilst the novice event is open to anyone new to the sport or who has taken part in less than three triathlons in the past. Both events have male and female categories in various age groups from Junior (16 -20) right through to Vintage Veteran (60+). The novice race comprises a 200m swim, a 12k bike section and a 2.5k run. The sprint race is over a 400m swim, 22k bike and 5k run course.
The triathletes will use the Wellington Sports Centre swimming pool for the swim element before taking to the quiet roads for the bike element towards Milverton and Wiveliscombe and then a mixture of footpaths and quiet lanes for the run.
Each transition will take place centrally at the Sports Centre which is one of the best places for spectators to watch and cheer the athletes on, although many also line the route through Milverton which is the half way point for the novice bike course and also forms part of the sprint bike course.
For the third year in succession, the popular event is sponsored by Taunton solicitors Foot Anstey and is organised by Tone Leisure and local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri.
Andrew Hannam of Taunton law firm Foot Anstey said “This is such a great event for athletes and a real fun day out for the family with plenty of side attractions to keep the whole family busy. There will be trade stands, local food market stands and activities for the children throughout the day.
“There is always such a great atmosphere at this event and I am really looking forward to taking part again along with a growing number of my colleagues from Foot Anstey.”
