Local Independent Financial Advisors Need To Look To Change
Independent financial advisers in the south west are facing a period of consolidation following the current economic downturn and the Financial Services Authority’s Retail Distribution Review.
Alan Hughes specialist in financial services at south west law firm Foot Anstey explains “The Retail Distribution Review signifies another period of change in the independent financial adviser sector.
“We are running an event on 12th May in Exeter that will help independent financial advisors be aware of the key areas if they are looking to buy or sell.
“Our team of experts will look at what buyers and sellers of IFA businesses should look for and consider the key issue of liability for past business when buying or selling, and how to deal with it.
“Smaller independent financial advisors will inevitably find it more difficult survive these changes so many owners will be looking at whether they should acquire or sell their businesses. We can also advise on the legal, practical and taxation issues relating to acquisitions and disposals of independent financial advisors’ businesses.”
The current economic climate also means an increase in professional indemnity claims. Speakers at the event will also explain how to take a practical and proactive approach to dealing with claims and complaints.
