Melanie is an associate specialising in Employment Law.
During her route to qualification she accumulated over 10 years experience in the retail sector, managing pubs. This practical experience of the trade not only allows her to understand the commercial pressures companies face and the sometimes difficult managerial decisions that have to be made but also enables her to provide practical legal advice for common retail employment problems.
Melanie started her legal career with Pitmans as a paralegal, where she stayed until qualified. Shortly after, she moved from private practice to the public sector where she remained for over two years, as an in-house lawyer for Avon and Somerset Constabulary. Having worked for the police Melanie is conversant with a public body’s commitment to diversity in the work place and in the community they serve.
She has dealt with a wide range of matters from HR advice, policy and contract reviews, strategic advice for public bodies and grievance and disciplinary issues through to the management of Employment Tribunal and Appeal cases. However, Melanie has particular expertise in discrimination claims having dealt with a variety of tribunals in respect of sex, race, and disability discrimination, victimisation and harassment.
