Comron is an associate specialising in pensions law.
Comron works closely with our employment and corporate lawyers. His clients range from well known national employers to family businesses and individuals. He also has experience advising pension scheme trustees.
What draws his clients together is a mutual need for specialist (and often highly technical) pensions advice delivered in a clear, commercial and easy to understand way.
Comron advises on all types of pension scheme ranging from final salary and other trust based schemes to group personal pension and stakeholder schemes. He is currently working with employers to help them to understand how the new “Personal Accounts” regime (to be introduced from 2012 onwards) will impact on their business and payroll.
Comron’s recent experience includes:
• advising employers on closing final salary pension schemes and making other changes to their existing pension arrangements
• making sure that buyers and sellers are fully aware of (and protected against) the legal risks and liabilities which arise on both share and business transfers where there is a pension scheme involved
• advising on the day to day operation of pension schemes including interpreting scheme rules and applying current legislation (for example, advising on death benefits, early retirement and maternity leave rights)
• reviewing and amending scheme rules and booklets
• reviewing pension provisions in employment contracts and compromise agreements
• advising individuals on Pensions Ombudsman claims
Comron also has experience negotiating with the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund. He has successfully obtained clearance from the Pensions Regulator for a company selling a group of UK and Irish companies with twelve different pension schemes including three UK final salary schemes and has also advised on the impact of insolvency on pension schemes.
Comron started his career in law at Simmons & Simmons in London where he trained and worked for over four years. Before joining Foot Anstey in 2008 Comron was working in the employment, pensions and incentives team at US law firm K&L Gates in London where he had helped to set up a new pensions team with his former colleagues from US law firm McDermott Will & Emery.
Comron is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and writes articles and presents seminars on topical pension law issues.
