Fundraising and Sponsorship
Charities engage in a diverse range of fundraising practises and are having to be increasingly imaginative in order to raise funds in a very competitive field. We work with clients to ensure that fundraising activities are legally compliant. In our experience the legal technicalities of different fundraising practises can sometimes get overlooked; this can cause charities some serious difficulties. We can help to “unpick” the subsequent problems that arise.
Our experience includes advising on:
- Funding and sponsorship agreements
- Arrangements with professional fundraisers
- Commercial participators
- Appeals
- Lotteries, raffles and prize competitions
- Public collections
- Fundraising events
Case studies
- Advising a number of charities on the legal formalities with which they must comply to hold lotteries (including raffles).
- Drafting an agreement between a charity client and a professional fundraiser in relation to a challenge event being organised to raise funds.
- Working with a charity following a “failed” appeal. This involved an application to the Charity Commission in accordance with the Charities Act 1993 for a scheme to allow the funds to be applied for the general purposes of the charity.
