Wind Farms and Renewable Energy

Simon Gregory, Chairman of Foot Anstey, heads up the firm’s relationship with the National Farmers Union (NFU). The firm is the NFU’s panel solicitor in Devon and Cornwall. The role has given Simon considerable exposure to the Renewables Sector and the introduction of Feed In Tariffs from 1 April 2010 has made renewable energy much more viable for the individual landowner. This has meant that there is now a greater interest in individual wind turbines and Anaerobic Digestors.

In addition Foot Anstey is being instructed on many larger renewable schemes including Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants and mutli turbine wind farms.

Simon Gregory led the Foot Anstey team that assembled the Wind Energy Park at Fullabrook, North Devon (almost certainly the biggest wind farm in England). Foot Anstey also acted in the sale of Devon Wind Power (the Company that had assembled the Wind Energy Park and obtained planning permission for it) to ESBI the Irish State Electricity Company.

Renewable energy is very much in its infancy and it is essential that clients obtain professional advice at an early stage in the transaction. There is a great risk to landowners that they enter into a transaction in haste which they regret over time.
